João Pedro Scores Twice to Send Chelsea to Club World Cup Final
João Pedro, a young Brazilian footballer who just joined Chelsea, helped his new team beat his old club Fluminense with two goals in the Club World Cup semi-final. The match took place on July 8 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and Chelsea won 2–0.
A Dream Start for Pedro
Pedro just signed with Chelsea from Brighton a few days ago. In his very first start, he scored both goals and showed why the club paid around £55 million for him. His first goal came in the 18th minute from outside the box, and he scored again in the second half after a fast break.
Respect for His Old Team
Pedro didn’t celebrate his goals. Instead, he raised his hands to say sorry. That’s because he grew up playing for Fluminense and still respects them. After the game, he said, “They gave me everything. I’m thankful, but I had to do my job.”
Chelsea in Control
Chelsea played smart football, even in the hot 35°C weather. Midfielders Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández were excellent, and it was Fernández who assisted Pedro’s second goal. The team looks strong going into the final, with many good forwards like Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku.
Money Well Spent
Thanks to this win, Chelsea earned around £25 million in prize money. That already helps cover a big part of what they paid for Pedro, making his signing look like a smart move.
What’s Next?
Chelsea will now play in the final on Sunday. They will face the winner of the other semi-final between PSG and Real Madrid. European teams have won this tournament 11 times in a row, and Chelsea hopes to keep that streak alive.
